Belle the next screening for the Women's Film Club
24 September 2014
October is Black History Month, and we're delighted this month to be screening a period drama with a difference. Belle tells the story of a mixed race woman - the illegitimate daughter of a naval officer and a slave - who is sent to live on a grand English estate with her uncle. She grows up leading a privileged life of wealth, but in a society which can never accept her on account of her colour. This is an inspiring film about one woman's struggle - to define her own identity, to define her place in society, and to play her part in bringing an end to slavery.
