Thank you to Local Giving's Magic Little Grants for your support for our Bridgend FAN Group. Gill and Ann facilitate the group that meets on Mondays at 10.45 in The Bridge Community Centre CF31 1JB. Here is Gill's account of the difference the Magic Little Grant has made.
It was another wet Monday morning in October when I gave the good news to
friends at Bridgend FAN that thanks to Sarahs’ good work we had been awarded
a £500 grant from Great Little Grants . As we have to pay £20 a week rent for our room to the Bridge we decided that £300 would cover 15 weeks rent and the £200 balance would be for us to enjoy ourselves!
We are a democratic group and after some discussion decided that we would celebrate Nicholas’ birthday on November 20th in the Wyndham Arms , our local Wetherspoons. It seemed more empowering to give everyone a £10 note towards the meal to spend as they wished So after our FAN meeting on the 20th November we crossed the street, umbrellas up, and enjoyed lunch. Beams all round from Nicholas as the whole place joined in when we sang Happy Birthday. Nicholas has been coming to our FAN meetings regularly for the last 8 years and is a precious core member.
Members of our group occasionally speak very warmly of visiting The Brothers Café in Nantymoel when we talk about our week. John and Sue told us that they had heard that there was to be a special Cream Tea on Saturday 2nd December but we would need to book pronto. They had room for 8 of us-which was as many who were available on that day. This time the sun shone down on us, though hats and scarfs were much needed. We met at the bus station and enjoyed the bus ride through the Ogmore valley to the café, where a warm welcome, fantastic home made food and lashings of tea awaited us! Everyone enjoyed both these outing greatly and we toasted the grant giving body with our bone china cups of tea
